Modern Woodland Cottages

Location: Pacific Northwest
Type: Middle Housing Development | Cottage Cluster Community | HB1110-Inspired Design
Architect: Harmony Space Architecture

Woodland Cottage Community is a middle housing development designed to create a calm, human-scaled neighborhood within the natural landscape of the Pacific Northwest. Inspired by Washington State’s evolving housing framework, including HB 1110, the project demonstrates how thoughtful design can introduce gentle density while maintaining a strong connection to nature.

The architecture features a series of modern cottage-style homes clad in warm timber siding and accented with dark metal roofs and detailing. Clean forms and simple gabled volumes create a contemporary yet familiar character, while large windows and carefully positioned entries bring light and openness to each residence.

Pedestrian-friendly pathways and landscaped planting beds organize the community, encouraging walkability and everyday interaction among neighbors. Native trees and soft greenery weave throughout the site, creating a quiet rhythm of architecture and landscape that feels both intimate and cohesive.

Inside, each home is designed with efficient layouts and bright, open interiors that support comfortable modern living. Expansive windows, natural materials, and thoughtfully framed views extend the experience of the surrounding greenery into the living spaces.

Woodland Cottage Community reflects Harmony Space Architecture’s approach to middle housing: creating sustainable, thoughtfully scaled neighborhoods that balance density, livability, and connection to the natural environment. The project illustrates how contemporary design can support evolving housing needs while preserving the calm character of Pacific Northwest communities.
